dc.description.abstractABB face stiff competition in ' Air Pollution Control9 business area for new projects. Since retrofitting is a 'Niche9 market for this business area, a market survey on heavy industries was conducted. Identification of the industries which create maximum air pollution were done from the data received from Central Pollution Control Board. Once these industries were identified, three major sectors, thermal power station, cement and alluminium were chosen for data collection. Analysis for a potential market was done considering the number of maximum units not following the pollution norms in a particular segment and was found to be the thermal power plant segment. For identification of thermal power plants, where retrofitting is possible, following aspects were considered: The Power plants which were installed prior to 1981, before implementation of Air Act. The plants which were commissioned after 1981 but APC equipment were not designed properly. The plants which were designed as per the pollution norms but not performing due to deterioration of coal quality. According to the above considerations, the total retrofitting market available was established (primary and secondary informations were used)To have major share of the retrofitting market, total plant renovation including air pollution control equipment would provide an edge over others.
