Abstract: India with a population of over 920 million people with 300 million of them in the middle income category, is a country that cannot be ignored by any foreign multinational company. The hitherto protected Indian market was opened to foreign companies in the year 1992 through the liberalization policies initiated by the Government of India.In this article some of the unique characteristics of the Indian market and the entry strategies followed by foreign companies in different industries are discussed.
