dc.description.abstractInvestment management is the professional management of funds by financial institutions, on behalf of their customers. The investments are in various securities like shares, bonds and derivatives, as well as assets like real estate, precious metals, commodities etc. The role of the investment manager is to obtain superior return on capital for the customers. ‘Superior return’ refers to adding value in the following ways: Using the research capabilities and investment skills to make better in decisions than their clients could, Providing better investment diversification through pooling of funds than the clients could achieve, Using the experience and breadth of knowledge to fulfill the investment goals of the portfolio, It is also the responsibility of the investment manager to ensure that the client’s individual preferences and needs are observed e.g. level of risk-appetite, liquidity needs, tax implications etc.
