However, the evolution of this trade camaraderie has witnessed a chequered evolution since the independence of both the nations. By 1948, owing to circumstances during India’s pre-independence period, trade relations with the Arab world were very strong. The major items exchanged included gems, garments, jewelry, petrol, chemicals and other engineered items.
