Abstract: Non-profits world over are making a greater move towards greater professionalization. Non-profits today face pressures for accountability from donors, staff, government agencies and foundations. This is compounded by the competition that non-profits face on multiple domains. India alone has around 2 Million charities and grass-roots non-profit organizations2. While not all 2Million of these are currently in a high-state of activity, there were, in 2006, around 500 organizations that operated on a large scale (more than $100,000 in income).3 However, given the humongous nature of tasks that these organizations take up, such as reducing poverty, eliminating deaths from HIV-AIDS; India needs a greater number of professionally-run large organizations.
